Description:
Instant collects together a number of short video works by young British contemporary artists in a specially designed interactive installation set-up.

Each of the works are accessible via a touch-screen monitor displaying a custom designed graphic interface which encourages the viewer to scratch away at a series of miniaturised visual icons (in a subtle echo of the lottery scratch card craze). By showcasing a number of high impact, performance orientated works (distinguished by a direct to-camera address or a dramatic, expressive focus on the body), Instant aims to offset the illusion of instant access or instant gratification, apparently promised by new technology, with a series of vivid visual reminders of the enduring, inescapable presence of physical reality.

Co-commissioned by FACT, Film and Video Umbrella and Tramway, Glasgow.
