FLOWERFIELD has evolved from a series of recent ideas, sketches and works called the 'Ultra Reality Series'.

I am currently examining notions of life and death and the fragility of things. Generally I'm concerned about the minute differences that separate the two: natural microcosms and ecosystems that exist in such a narrow bandwidth of life on earth are always so fascinating.

This fascination provokes questions about who we are and what we are here for. While we ponder these questions, a microscopic world is accidentally killed, or is damaged to the point of extinction. These thoughts are nothing new. These thoughts are always neglected. Humankind constantly evolves and constantly destroys its creations. The 'Ultra Reality Series' is a collection of video installations that examine light, ecology and the future predictions. The work uses a small amount of interactive switching to include an element of participation by the viewer, as if that viewer is somehow responsible for the outcome of that work.

FLOWERFIELD has been partially inspired by computer games and mindless acts of violence. It also takes the mickey out of game based virtual realities containing key environmental messages. The work is essentially quite kitsch and deliberately over dramatic, it has a large aspect of fun.

The flowers are passive and are in love. The evolving flying creatures are destructive and hugely aggressive. Please stand with the flowers, they quite like you. Lei Cox.
