Gag comprises of two video projections. In each projection, fingers and tongues poke and probe pieces of coloured material into an orifice, which reveals itself to be a mouth. The fabric (which has associations with clothing, a sheet, a handkerchief...) acts as a gag; stopping speech and breath. Each 'gagging' cuts out at the point of endurance as the mouth is full, only to begin over again.
In Gag, we do the same thing to each other - the two images give simultaneous views of us in dual positions/roles.
The relentless double action has both brutal and sexual connotations and the close cropping of the image makes the viewer question what could be happening beyond the frame.
The projections are installed in the corner of the space and work both together and against one another. The similarities and differences in colour, rhythm, force and sound serve to intensify the pushing action and the tension between the two becomes uncomfortable and disorienting to watch.
