Being the first Asian participants in a Video Positive Festival, presented us with a significant opportunity, to produce an expressive electronic installation that would reflect both the common consciousness of the group and individual ideas.
Using themes of identity, media stereotypes and belonging the group focused on their individual experiences and ideas, using literal, metaphoric and abstract social statements to convey the conflicts and ambiguities of displacement. EVEN AS WE SPEAK uses video, photography, sculpture, electronic manipulation, text and music to present a journey exploring the many languages, worlds and histories that challenge the often misrepresented Asian culture in Britain.
