Description:
With an increasing number of CD-ROMs now available through cultural or commercial markets, Video Positive brings together a selection of screen-based interactive projects by artists from around the world, which reflect and focus upon the creativity and diversity of approaches to an ever-widening area of cultural and artistic expression.

CD-ROMs will include five outstanding works from Japan curated by Machiko Kusahara. Ranging from the seminal 'Alice' by Haruhiko Shono/Kuniyosh Kaneko & Kazuhiko Kato in an interactive journey through the work of computer graphic artist Yoichiro Kawaguchi, each demonstrates the richness, creativity and complexity of interactive CD-ROM work in Japan.

These projects will be supplemented by two new projects from Canada, plus work from Germany, France, the USA and the UK.

How It Works - Four Apple Macintosh computer trackerballs will be sited in the room and positioned on specially constructed plinths. Each computer will be linked to one CD-ROM per day (the programme will alternate daily); it will not be possible to access any other work from a single computer. At each station the user will be given navigational aids and a brief summary of the work.

CD-ROM Guide - A guide (in fully material form!) will be present on-site constantly to assist users and answer questions about the work and ensure the smooth operation of the computers. Eddie Berg.

Most CD-ROMs on display are for sale at the VP95 Info Room at Bluecoat Arts Centre.
