| Description: | A sound-based minimal performance presented within Video Positive 2000 is the culmination of the Virtual Revolutions CD-Rom.
The Finissage celebrates the end of a two year project by a translocal network of more than 70 leading media pioneers, artists, writers and producers of various backgrounds from, and beyond, Europe.
Featuring newly commissioned mini-works and writings, the Virtual Revolutions CD-Rom boasts an innovative sleeve design and a plethora of fascinating contributors which include:
G. Arnaoudov, L Boyadjiev, A. Broeckmann, K. Chuhan, S. Cubitt, N. Czegledy, R. Dominguez, P. Dourmana, S. Emmott, M. Flor, S. Furneaux, C. Gillman, G. Gospodinov, T. Kokona, G. Lovink, L. Manovich, L. D. Miles, G. Novakovic, T. Nuttall, Programme 5, A. Pettican, M. Sonola, I. Stromajer, SuAndi, A. Taylor, A. Tonts, J. Ylitalo.
The subthemes of the CD and web shorts range from anti-war statements and personal investigations into the nature and voice of'revolutionaries', to tongue-in-cheek critiques of the [web]world crowded with rules, clutter and redundancy. These mini-works of sound, text and moving images are imbedded in a collection of new critical writings about the rapidly maturing media culture in Europe.
Initiated as a theoretical construct to provoke consistent renegotiation and a shift of our perception of what Europe is [and has been], the virtual revolutions theme has assumed a metaphorical status and stands for any revolutionary transformations, information technologies, ideological metamorphosis, cultural colonialism and expansion in the virtually transformed Europe of the late 1990s.
Curated and project managed by Iliyana Nedkova [Bul/Eng].
VR CD-Rom is master designed by Mare Tralla [Est/Eng] and co-edited by Iliyana Nedkova [Bul/Eng] and Catherine Williams [Eng] in collaboration with the cair Editorial Board. VR is published by Audio-Visual Research Editions, supported by Liverpool Art School, Liverpool John Moores University.
