An enthralling critical history of modernism, illustrated with clips of movies, TV, ads and news footage and articulated though the debate between two lovers separated by country and city for the length of a summer. Set in bucolic Herefordshire, where nothing ever changes, the main character discovers a caravan containing letters, discs and tapes belonging to a mysterious and disappeared figure, gradually he pieces together elements of a personal quest into how it is that art has failed to deal with the catastrophes of the twentieth century.
