STAMPEDE is a promenade show that explores the nature of a society which both fears and generates crowds. The everyday movements of crowds are transformed by repetition and exaggeration into unnerving and disorientating rituals.
These actions are combined with pumping music and eerie silence punctuated by the thumps and slaps of the bodies themselves creating a physical performance that is both punishing and relentless. The work uses video, theatre, an interactive computer and an original soundtrack by Bristol dance band Statik.
The piece uses huge mirrors and metal grilles to reconfigure the space, sometimes confining the audience, sometimes enclosing the performers.
