The workshops were designed to give the group a greater understanding in the uses of video equipment, lighting, creating sets, improvising in the use of props, working as part of a group, and compiling storyboards.


From week one, Simon Robertshaw gave the group outlines as to the development the workshops would take. It seemed that a great deal would be invloved, and much knowledge be our reward. Our theme for the workshops was 'My Idea Of Paradise', suggested and chosen from a list of possibilities by the participants.


Each group member had to plan their storyboard, direct other participants in their scene, organise props, prepare lighting, arrange angles for shooting and finally edit the footage. All these objectives were met, and as a first attempt in the use of this medium, were very successful.


Ashworth Expressive Arts Workshop have gained much diversity under the direction of our Hospital Arts Council. The facility of Video Workshops has left us much richer from the experience. Ruth Pearce, Project Co-ordinator.
