Bill Viola was born in New York, USA in
1951.
He studied at the College of Visual and
Performing Arts, Syracuse New York.
From 1973 to 1980 he was part of the
new music group, "Rainforest" with
composer David Tudor. Since then he
has worked in video, producing both
single screen works and video
installations. He has been artist in
residence at WNET 13 Television
laboratory in New York, the San Diego
Zoo in California and at the Atsugi
Laboratories of the Sony Corporation in
Japan. In 1980/81 Bill Viola lived in
Japan, studying traditional culture and
video technology. Bill Viola has worked
as a teacher of Advanced Video.
