| Biography: | 1997
George Barber's output as an artist has
always been extremely varied. He has
never been just a video artist having
written scripts, radio plays, worked as a
print and radio journalist and more
recently curated video programmes.
Similarly, his work presents just as
varied a canon, from the days of Scratch
Video via low-tech works like Taxi Driver
2 and The Story of Wash & Go, to his
more recent, haunting and considered
pieces, like Ansaphone and Withdrawal.
2000
George Barber came to prominence
through Scratch Video, making
outstanding and inventive use of
multilayered fast-moving imagery. Much
of this work was very influential, in
particular, his orchestration of samples,
beats and image. His recent work is
more private, personal and thought
provoking.
Across a large range of work, he always
has a refreshing approach.
